...still playing with the new camera.

My sister lives over on the East side of the state (bout 300 miles away) and decided she was going to show up this weekend. So we all headed to Pikes Peak. A state park over in Iowa (iahntr you should be familiar with some of this) to spend a couple hours.

I dont know who this was but it looked picture worthy

My younger sister and my older brother. I dont know why she's getting fresh with me here but it was a little wierd

Great pics Jim and believe it or not I got a couple comments/questions. :innocentwhistle:
1.)  I never realized your FnCountry was in such dire straights that no one could afford long pants.
2.)  When did you become a West Virginian .
3.)  That elevator can handle 300,000 acres of grain for a fact .
4.)  Don't hurt that bug in the last picture as I can make big bucks killing him or his cousins in late July.
I say what I think not think what I say.

FinsnFur

No we can't afford long pants, in fact we often share the short ones. :innocentwhistle:
Plus being so broke, the half pants are usually half price. Ya cant lose.

West Virginian? Not really...but rumor has it the disease is being carried up from the oil spill in the gulf. I'm still looking into it.

300,000 acres of grain for a fact? I'm assuming so. Or...40 million bushels.

The bug was never harmed. He's in a bottle made cozy bed of leaves and dirt as you read this, waiting for my next fishing trip. :innocentwhistle:

That elevator loads barges with grain?  I never think of moving things by water as we don't do that here.

I worked half a summer as a welder's helper repairing barges on the Columbia River, about 1966 or so.  About half of the barges were grain barges and the other half were gasoline in those days.  The grain barges were humongous, many times larger than the WWII Liberty ships converted to barges.

When I read that 300,000 acre bit I assumed that meant that they move that much grain through, not that they have to store it all at the same time. When I hauled grain to the River they were putting it on freight cars and into barges as fast as they could out the other end of the elevator.

Purdy cool pics Jim!! Thanks for sharing!!

I read it as "300,000 acres annually".  :eyebrownod: :eyebrownod:

That's a neat little tug engine too.

Baggage is good, Wisconsin is a long ways away if you got nothing to carry your clothes with.  :alscalls: :alscalls:

At least you got a fork in your tree Jim. The only way Bop would have one in his tree was if he was trying to eat that box of Little Debbies & not get caught by the Mrs.  :alscalls: :alscalls:
