Ive been interested in a Ruger Mini-14 for a long time but never bought one cuz I always read and heard the accuracy was really bad. I also heard that they are very rugged and will eat any kind of ammo without jamming. I saw a new wood and blued 581 series ranch rifle at a local shop and finally took the plunge. I have done alot of research and the new 580-581 series ones are from the new Ruger tooling and such for the Mini and are supposed to be much more accurate....I havent got mine out yet due to the dang rain n all but will soon...it looks good and feels good in the hand...im gunna put a low power scope on it and use it for hunting in the thicker woods where its light n short size will make is useful....comes with a NH legal 5 round magazine and scope mounts...in .223 caliber also....much simpler design then my Ar15 but Ill be pretty surprised if it can shoot anywhere near the AR!...I need to get the Mini, the AR and the bolt .223 out some time and see who the king of the .223's is !!!
UPDATE:

Well I took the Mini out today after I slapped a scope on her and gave it a good cleaning...WOW...I sighted it in at 50 yards...was really wondering what to expect after all the material I read online about them....couldnt be happier...I fired with no bore sight...hit paper...walked her in...last 5 shots shredded the target...4 of them touching !...I was surprised at that...gun shot beautifully, cycled, ejected, man does that baby kick those empties out...Ill have to shoot it more at a longer range but I was very happy with the results today...I think shes a keeper.. and I like the heavy wood and metal...feels like you could club a bear with it haha !

I had a mini 14 and ended up getting rid of it.  I really liked the gun but just didn't like the accuracy part.

"Only accurate rifles are interesting" - Col Towsend Whelen.   That pretty much sums up my feelings about rifles.

I am glad the new mini has the accuracy thing worked out.  It really is a great little rifle.   Looking forward to some pictures!!

I had one that shoot pretty good but got rid of it because it was so loud if i shot it hunting i couldn't hear good the rest of the day, but it never jambed on me.

Glad to know they have been revamped! The one I had long ago would string really badly when it got hot and the best I could do was 3 or 4 MOA at 100yds...I think I made a fence post out of it!

Let us know how she does after you put her through the paces!
