I couldnt help but to snap this one the other night when we was out camping. The scene looked just like it does here, no editing.

The girls found this thing setting up an ambush under the campground bathroom lights.

And then the next day they seen this thing perched on the outside wall of the bathrooms. Holy crap this thing was huge!
it took me a couple hours to track down what it was once we got home.
Anyone know?

I don't know what it is, but it is headed toward the chocolate milk.

P.S.  I really like the first picture.

5 SHOTS

sometimes I wonder....is that getting closer..... then it hits me

I had a personal conflict the other day, now I'm not speaking to myself.... I'm getting lonesome

I met the girl of my dreams, I was the man of her dreams too.....she used the term "nightmares" though.

Not sure what the flying beast is, but add color and it's right out of Avatar!  :sneer:

The first pic is my favorite. I think those kinda shots are killer.

It's a male Dobsonfly.  They live around water.

Bingo
Did you know or did you look around?

That whole fly was about 4 inches long. Man it was creepy looking.

ONE UGLY BUG!! that is what that is

Ya need to tie a fly that looks like that thing and I bet  you would get some action for sure.

That first pic is a beauty. Silhouetting stuff like that can turn out some great results
Don't bring shame to our sport.

Does it make a difference?     The first time I ever saw one I had to look around to find out what it was.   So yeah, I had to look around once.

Weird how this subject of the Dobsonfly came up here. Must be the time of year they get out all over. Last Wednesday an electrician brought one to the jobsite at lunch in a Gatorade bottle. He said he didnt know what it was and never seen one before. It was a female that can bite you pretty good.

I had only seen my first one 5 or 6 years ago myself cant recall ever seeing one when I lived in Fl.and like Semp looked it up once. I couldn't remember its exact name but gave them a small history lesson on what I thought I new.

The chances of a siteing in the same week 800 miles apart.

According to what I read, the female pincers are very short, much like a regular beetle, but they posses enormous clamping pressure. Enough to break your skin.
Where the males with such large/long pincers dont have near the leverage and are pretty harmless.

But what I did think was cool was the fact that when they feel threatened they can rear back their heads with their mouths open as if they were a roaring lion.
Well......that and they can spray ya from their anuses. But I read somewhere in here the Bill can do that too.
