Went prospecting yesterday in my creek.

rode this

and went to work

then took what I dug and went here

and found this on the first pan.

I found more but when I was taking the lid off my snuffer bottle I dropped it and lost some of the pepperflake sized gold

"note to self: Wait till ya get back to the house to take pics of what ya found

Oh yeah. There be gold under all that corn.

Indiana is the largest gold producing state this side of the Missippi. The gold in Indiana came down with the glaciers. It is called placer gold. Very pure stuff but you usually only find it in flour or pepper flake form. You can find nuggets but that is a rare thing.

I panned for about 4 hours and found a speck or two in almost every pan but that still only adds up to barley enough to cover a number on the date on a dime.

I am in the works to make a highbanker so I can move more material and have gravel for my 100 yard mark on my range. I will never get rich doing it but the sand and gravel from the creek will do wonders for projects around the property

Put your glasses on Barry and look a whole lot closer. And I do mean a whole lot closer.

IFn I had found a dime I would still be out there and not stopped at 4 hours

thats cool, i've always wanted to try that around here but have no clue how to start.   I do watch Gold Fever occasionally and it gets me fired up !!

would a tin pie pan work ?

Jimmie in Ky

I've watched that gold fever nut pan in Ky. He found a bit too. I doubt there being any in this end of hte sate though.

But on another note. A local rockhound found a huge clovis point a while back. Rumour is hte offer for the point is at a quarter million so far. Point is said to be 8 and a half long by 2 and a half wide. One that size is truly rarer than hens teeth. Beats gold panning dont it  :eyebrownod: Jimmie

Shoot you gotta have enough to melt into a gold bar by now. :eyebrownod:

Silincer, You really need a pan with a side a lot higher than a pie pan has. You can get a pan for les than 10 bucks + shipping off line. A friend of mine gave me the one I have. Do a search and see what you can come up with. I have a gold catcher with the ripples built in and I find it to work very well and the learning curve is not bad at all.

A pan, a couple 5 gallon buckets, a wire screen for classifing and a shovel will get ya started. Be Carefull You can get the gold bug real easy.

I am not sure if W by-gawd Vyjinny has had any gold found in it You can Check out a glacial drift graph for your area. If you have had a glacier cover your area you can try and find a moraine and any stream that cuts through it. If you have a parking lot that draiins into a culvert. You can pan the stuff you find in the ripples of the pipe. You would be supprised at what you can find.

If you can find black sand you will be best off. my creek drains a large field and I get the gravel and sand from that washing down.

Have to take a pic of the garnets and possible ruby I have found.

I am putting together a highbanker so I can work a lot more material into concentrat. I gave it a test run today and my riffles were working I just dont have enough water flow out of the garden hose. Give me time and I will have that worked out.
