Fall Turkey ?

This morning I had a bit of time to spend on a deer stand and while I was using a doe bleat I could hear hens yelping as if it were spring time and they were looking for Mr. Tom 
Just kinda wondering if the hens were calling their almost full grown young to gather as they come off the roost or were they telling me they could see me and letting the rest of the woods know that too

I would just about guess this time of the year it is hens keeping the young ones together..especially if it is in the woods, heres a great link for sounds, our NH fall shotgun season starts tomorrow

At this time of year, turkeys jabber a lot early in the morning coming off the roost.  Once assembled they quieten down and begin their day.  

If they were alarmed by you, you would have heard some high pitched putts.

Nothing high pitched just done what sounded like yelps and then after about 10 minutes things were kinda quiet.I did hear them off in the distance every once in awhile,but nothing that seemed that they were alarmed

Fall is when we will hear a lot about the pecking order...... remember the KI KI or KEE KEE ?
Turkeys fight an almost constant battle with the pecking order as the young of the year get older and the old birds get older....And the winter flock grows larger....
So someone is always trying to move themselves up in the ranks...... As they do this they are very vocal, almost bold about it at times.... when they shoot off their mouth before they can back it up, the lead bird will kick the butt of the culprit, being joined by some of the other birds as they want to show how tough they are.

I have watched them already this year at my farm preparing for fall season and if your close enough you can hear even the most timid KEE KEE and then the loud yelping, purring , and clucking as the chorus of birds display their dominance, on the bird that tried to take the lead.

We heard some birds gobbling yesterday..... and when we went to try and see the birds we discovered as we got closer they were gobbling to the sound of a hammer as the neighbor fixed his tree stand....
Fall has fell upon us.........aint it great?!
