That's what I have! lol  I took a week of vac. from work... didn't really have anything planned, but my wife did! lol  our porch needed attending too.  I replaced 2 of the posts... that was fun (oh yeah...)  then I thought I'd get some toneboads made up.. this got entirely out of hand.  I got about 40 completed.. or at least as far as I take 'em before making a call... I like to cut the air channel and finish the ramp after the barrel is built.   heck I don't know why I just do it that way.  I had my jig set up for horn type blanks and made up 12.. had ordered more horn but didn't expect to get it in so quick... was planning on going to antler then got the horn in... well had to make up some more... then I went to the antller.. I'd sent off some antler to Kerry Carver to have stabilized.. and he got it back to me quicker than I expected.. so I turned it to dimesnion (5/8") and cut to length...  have 'em at a couple different stages but I have 20 ready for calls.  Soo 20 antler toneboards waiting for a barrel and several more close to being done... I'm about cross-eyed from looking at 'em on the lathe!  :laf: So 20 antler, and 20 buffalo horn... my head is starting to hurt!

The cardboard box has the left side ready to put a finish on.. right side (stacked 3 high), needs to be cut like the left side.. 1/2" then o-ring grooves... the 2 plastic totes have 'em carried as far as I take 'em before making a barrel... scrap in the middle... I forgot there's about 15 in a drawer that are finished and ready to cut the ramp on my lathe..  This is the part of call making that is a bit mundane... (but the most important) I try to hit it hard and get it over with.. the barrels are the fun part.

LOL yeah guess I was a bit long winded there! I've had a few folks recently ask how long it takes me to make one of my calls.. making them in bunch's like this is one of the reasons I can't really give a good answer.  I did time myself on one of the horn toneboards.... it was already cut to 5/8" diameter and to length... but with that blank I was just under a half hour to where it is here... I still have to sand the ramp... if you notice the brown in the pic that's scorching I cut it with a scroll saw and it gets a bit hot, and the buffalo horn doesn't like it. So I'll sand that off, then cut the air channel and finish it.  Cut a reed fit it/"tune it"... there's not as much to "tuning" as some would like folks to think.. I use a wider reed if someone wants a lower sound, a thinner reed (the way I like 'em) for higher pitched... just slightly longer than the end of the air channel, a little to long kills volume, to short... well it won't work. lol  then I put the o-ring on.  Hope I didn't push ya over the edge!  :laf:

Nope you didnt push me over the edge. Pretty interesting reading actually.
There's a couple of you call makers that have literally hauled ass through this call making....dare I say industry....as it progressed over the years. And your one of them Brad.

I can remember back in 2002 over on Premenstrual Syndrome forum as the call making industry was coming to life. Everyone wanted a piece of the action, only few had a clue, and most bought tone boards from a commercial outfit. :laf:
I can still recall talking to a few guys and saying why in the hell doesnt someone start making these tone boards, my gawd they could make a killing.
Soon after that several entrepreneurs started molding tone boards based off of a copy cat commercial call they bought and tore apart to make a mold of. And I'm telling you first hand some of these molds were a sight for sore eyes. :doh2: :laf:

You and a handful of others have really laid down a foundation for an extremely loosely used term, we all have different definitions for, and have all watched get thrown around over the last 10 years. "Custom Calls".
Keep up the good work.

:laf:  Just caught this Jim!  ummm more like a years worth... I don't make that many calls!  (to lazy)   :laf:

Hey WWW the invite was put out there for my "tail gunner"  :innocentwhistle:   You did right though... can't fault a guy for taking care of family.

Jim I wish I could take credit for thinking it was the "right" thing to make my own... honestly I was so green on the net,... well heck I didn't know you could buy 'em!  :laf:   By the time I found out I was already pretty good at making my own...   what was the sense to do it then?  Heck 2 guys kept saying they loved my toneboards... some fella from Alaska was one of 'em the other from WY if memory serves.

Hey Mark.. I ain't the only one making toneboards!  Heck if Rich would quit buying 'em all from you I'd have to buy a few myself!   :laf:
