I'll have to pull out my certificate to get the real details for you guys but Steve can fill ya in on the rest while I do that.  :innocentwhistle: Thanks Steve.

Every year for the last four years Steve has put out a North Bay Conservation set. I have been lucky enough to be part of it from the start and have set #1 from the past four years.

This is this years set and I cant recall what its made of right off the top of my head? But is damn beautiful stuff. The wood has an almost holographic look to it and the grains and quilting just ripple under the light. (Joe Bradshaw had a fancy french word for this but I cant recall that either?)  They have all the qualities I enjoy in woods and Steve knows I'm a sucker for the lighter colored sap woods too.

The left one is a 22-250 Brass call, and the right is a .223 Brass call. They all sound awesome, but the .223 squeaker sounds so freaking good, I have told Steve I want two more from exotic woods and one I'll use. It just has the right stuff for killer bird sounds!!!

I'll take better pics with the fancy camera when I can and I'll look up the certificate tonight.

Note: I think years 1-3 had five sets each and this year only had 3.

It took me a couple minutes to realize that those two calls were actually shaped to resemble an empty cartridge like that...but man that is so cool.
5shots did that with aluminum and they were sweeter then a two dollar hooker on nickel night :eyebrow:
But I have never seen them in wood before.

Very very nice Steve, absolutely beautiful :yoyo:

Well dang if I didn't miss this thread  They are made from curly hormigo Todd. It says it right on the call too :innocentwhistle:

I think I have just the wood to make those other two calls for you. I just need to measure them and make sure they are the correct size.

Anyway, the .22-250 and the .223 are both scaled (2x) the size of a standard cartridge. Sometimes its nice to have access to a CAD program so I can get all of the dimensions somewhat accurate. I did this on my lunch break of course.

Dang I never saw that Strickland call. And here I thought I came up with something different. Oh well, I suppose they are still different since they aren't loaded.

Thanks guys,
Steve

Oh and that base is made from cherry...I love that wood :yoyo:

I already have a planer and want to get a jointer. The never ending list of tools I need and don't have room for.

HaMeR

Cool!! I'll look around here for some rough sawn Cherry. I think I have some here if you are interested.

I know, I have to get down there to check it out. I'm actually heading to Columbus this weekend for the Waterfowlers Bootcamp. Unfortunately, I'm bringing some one along that wants to get there in time for some demos and I have no idea what time we're leaving yet. I'll give ya a jingle if it looks like we may be able to swing by.

I'm off to work this AM & they aren't open on Sunday. Holler if you're near tho & we can have supper or a coffee.

Hey Glen,

Sorry couldn't make it over. We only stayed at the waterfowl show for the day and my buddy had to get home to tend to his dogs. That and the construction in the area sent us packing on the back roads for what seemed like endless miles. It was a good time down there though...keim lumber actually came up in conversation too. I have to get back down to see what they have in the way off basswood if nothing else.

I finally got some more carving done on that decoy too...It's easier to get something done when your sitting around shooting the *** with a bunch of carvers. We all made some progress today. I'll be in touch about coming down sometime.

Steve

HaMeR

Not a problem Steve!! Just holler!!
