Butcher45 has several successful posts on here regarding hunting with his air rifle.

I was setting out in the shop tonight shooting old potatoes out in the driveway with the new Crosman® 1322 and got to thinking about these rifles again.
Last week I think I watched 2 dozen YouTube videos of air gunning rats on farms and stuff. One guy did an extermination service type deal shooting gophers etc. Had a Scope-cam the whole ball of wax.
Gaaaahd it looked fun. :jump:

The PCP's look like the cats apparatus and the Benjamin Marauder is one sweet shooting rig. But holy crap does she carry a price tag, at just barely under $500 bills.

Who shoots an air rifle?
What for?
And how do ya like it?

I have a Benjamin discovery .22 caliber for about 2 years now, LOVE IT!...best airgun I have ever owned, deadly accurate, light as a feather, good looking, I have taken crow, woodchuck, many squirrels and muskrat with it. Go PCP youll never use any other type of airgun, and they have them at wally world for $329.00, I paid $350.00 for mine!!...best squirrel hunting rig I own.

Overwhelming fire power:

The only thing on the Discovery is they are pretty loud if your gunna shoot n your yard n have neighbors close by, but you can get a muzzle brake for that, checkout the pcp pistols and prices here:

I hate to get you even more into airguns but, :innocentwhistle:, checkout this gun, wicked accurate, 1 pump, I owned one and made the mistake of letting my brother borrow it...3 years ago!..def need another one:

I shoulda known you'd have a collection of airguns :laf:

That Beeman reminds me of the Gamo I bought prior to this Crossman1322. It looked good, but totally impractical. I gave it to the orange head band wearer she shoots birds and target with it.

Some of those PCP's really impress me. I can remember being totally against all this air rifle stuff as it got hot a couple years ago, but now they are starting to appeal to me.

Jim!! Really??? I'm still working on the pistol.  :doh2: :innocentwhistle:

But I did check a lot of those rifles last year and they don't stop at $500.  :shock2:

Craigslist is a good place to pick up some decent airguns, heres an older 1377 with stock, could probably knock the price down some:

I like em cuz the ammo is cheap and they r safer to hunt small game with around populated areas, and quieter too.

"I shoulda known you'd have a collection of airguns"...I took a whole summer to talk myself into buying that Discovery after a slew of crap rifles that didn't do the job for me, but I m glad I did, well worth the initial cost...but it did hurt...at first...laying that much out for an air rifle

Of course there is also the fairly new entry of gas piston rifles to consider:

Sorry Todd :laf: ....it's just....it's just all happening so fast.  :doh2:

The 13 x series pimped out as carbines dont do much for me, Nasty. I'm not sure what it is but they just dont appeal to me . There are definitely some cool carbine rigs out there. I'll give em that.

I dont know much about the Nitros. Havent had the time to do a lot of research on them. Are those all spring?

LMAO, now that's America!..."I dont know much about the Nitros. Havent had the time to do a lot of research on them. Are those all spring?"...NOSSUH!..there is no spring:

Welcome to the new world of break barrel American Muscle â€" introducing the NEW NPSS, Nitro Piston Short Stroke, break barrel air rifle from Remington. At the heart of this new technological break-through is a nitrogen filled gas piston, instead of a coiled steel spring. The Nitro Piston Short Stroke will not be adversely affected by temperature and allows for much easier cocking force. This gun can be cocked for long periods of time without degrading or losing velocity, like steel springs.

This Nitro Piston technology dramatically reduces felt recoil by eliminating the double hit and spring torque associated with steel spring guns.

Jim,

About a year back I bought a Benjamin Marauder in .22 cal.  Best money I ever spent!  I got it at Pyramidair.com and got the package deal with the 4-16x scope, and Benjamin hand pump.  Yes, it seemed pricey.  But not a day goes by that I am not shooting it.  Compared to a break barrel spring rifle, the thing is super quiet.  As far as accuracy?  At 20 yards you are talking single hole groups with the right pellet.  At 40 yards tiny little groups.  See a walnut at 65 yards, no problem!
Pump it up to 2900 PSI and get about 30-40 shots easily till the pressure drops to 2000 PSI.  Then it takes about 60 pumps to get it back to 2900 PSI.  My Marauder has a ten shot magazine.  Mines giving me 900 fps at the muzzle...Hit a varmint with it, and the loudest thing you will here is an audible "Smack!" :eyebrow:
The Discovery is a single shot.  It only pumps up to 2000 PSI.  It is alot louder than the Marauder, but considerably cheaper... Alot of fellows start out with the Discovery, but end up adding on to them ($)...
If you have any questions give me a holler.

Dave

I will never bother with a Springer again.  I am hooked on the PCP rifles.

FinsnFur

Very good info Dave. Thanks for taking the time.

Frogman

Guys,

My neighbor across the street has the Marauder in .22.  It is really quiet and accurate.  I ordered one in .25 cal today from PyramydAir.  Got the package deal plus the scuba tank adapter and several tins of various pellets to try in it.  There are lots of utube stuff about the Marauder.  I'm looking forward to getting mine soon and will post up a review after I have spent some time shooting it.

Jim
You can't kill 'em from the recliner!!

FinsnFur

:eyebrownod: looking forward to that. Thats an awesome airgun. A little out of my immediate price range, but definitely top of the line.
