My son, Dante, came in tonight and said he thought he found some chicken of the woods mushrooms and I should come out to see.  I didn't bring the camera, but did pick about half of what was there as they did look like them.  Here are a few pics I took once I got back to the house.  Double checking online confirmed that they are chickens (they are mostly unmistakable and only need to be careful if they are growing on coniferous trees).  They do look deadly, though, don't they!

These were incredible compared to the Hen of the woods he found last week.  These ones did peel apart just like a well cooked chicken would and are as tender as can be.  I'll go back in a day or so to pick the rest and will try to get a good pic of them growing on the tree.

They look delicious but you guys are scaring me.

I hear that...they are scaring the living crap out of me too. :sad3: :sick2:

It DOES look good...but man o man, I would be so nervous.

I love mushrooms and eat a lot of them.  I always pick mine at the local grocery store.
When they come for mine they better bring theirs

Well I got back down to the mushroom find the other day and took a few pics of the one I left.  Obviously it's the one on the right.  The left area I had picked last week.

A few close up shots:

And the last shot is how I picked this one (with a nice new knife that HuntnCarve gave me for x-mss! :big grin: ).  I saw online that if you pick the outer area of the fan, it will grow back in a few weeks.  Figured it's worth a shot.

Probably cook em up tonight in a flounder/mushroom fried rice/stir fry concoction.
