Jon and I headed up to the hunting lease in Wirt County WV for some daytime coyote calling.  After a few stands with no success we set up in some thick pines planted by pulp and paper.  I set up about 20 yards to Jon's left and couldn't even see him.  Jon started calling on his new distress mouth call.  It was about 10:00 AM.  In just a couple of minutes I heard him shoot, more calling, then another shot, more calling and a third shot??  I hadn't seen anything and thought maybe he had called in some crows??  When I got to him he was very excited and kind of shaking.  Two coyotes had come running in.  There was an area of to his front right that he could not see through.  He was watching to his front left.  the two coyotes came right through the thick stuff where he could not see well.  The front yellow one stopped within ten feet of him.  It put the breaks on and turned and ran into the second bigger black one.  The black one took off back over the hill to Jon's left, the first yellow one disappeared back into the thick stuff.  Jon's first shot with his shotgun was at the bigger black coyote at about 30 yards as it was disappearing over the hill.  He immediately started ki-yi ing on the mouth call.  The yellow coyote actually came back into an area where Jon could see it.  BOOM flop and it was down at about 15 yards.  He went back to ki-yi ing in hopes of getting the black one to come back.  Didn't happen?  Since the downed yellow one was still kicking he shot it again to anchor it!  He was quite excited!!

Above you can see his setup.  The coyotes appeared the thick area just behind his shotgun barrel to the left of where his is pointing the gun.  He killed the yellow one where he is pointing the gun.

We were this close to the truck!

Love that hardwood country!  Great story and pics.  Looks like a bowhunting setup for coyotes.
