Anyone ever have one of these apart before?
The leak behind that c clip is annoying the hell out of me, but I have a feeling there's going to be about a 1inch spring behind that cap and I'll never get it back on.

Can you get the hooks of a gear puller to catch somewhere?

No clue at all.  But I would probably just put a wire on a tin can and hang it there so it would catch the drips.  That is unless it is a gusher type leak.

The leak is by design to keep the mechanism below properly lubed...

I can pull mine apart tomorrow and see if you like.

I do think so HaMeR. Not with any significant throw to it anyway if the spring was very long.
The splitter belongs to my brother, he had a rag tied around it when I hauled it home. I shook my my head at it. Hes so unhandy hes dangerous with a screw driver....if he owns one. I told him I'd put an end to the leak when I got it back to my shop.
Mikey...I dare ya! [emoji2]

You should be able to push that cap in a little with your finger. Go for it. :eyebrow:

Does the handle latch into place for the return and pop back into neutral when it reaches its end? If not then there is no spring. its just a basic spool valve. No biggie to repair. you should be able to get a blow up schematic off the net.

There has got to be a parts list somewhere for that model splitter. Go from there and see if you can find it. Or post the model and such and I will see what I can find in my hydraulic suppliers.
Don't bring shame to our sport.

He died for dipshits too.

You think theres THAT little tension on it Dave? ...or are you hoping to get me sprayed in the face lol?
I"m gonna run out there and see if I can push it in. Now ya got me curious. :doh2:

Ok, she pushed in. :eyebrownod: Its basically just a coin shaped cover that fits into a groove and the groove is oversize several thousandths so it moves.
Theres nothing inside there that would stop fluid from leaking out the coin shape cover. I'm wondering if there's even suppose to be fluid against that cover, and maybe something deeper is letting it by.  :wo:

No model that I could find Slag. It's from Northern Tool and has a 5 horse on it, but no real splitter numbers that I could find.

Grab hold of that thing and pull it out. Replace O-rings ,  re-install, leak fixed. :highclap:

Hadn't thought of getting you sprayed,,,funny,,, usually I think of that stuff first! :eyebrow:

Taking a closer look at your close-ups,,  It looks like a flattened rubber in the end there. Replacing that may solve your leak. Bad O-rings on the piston should have effected operation, if it works well they are probably fine.

FinsnFur

I never seen any rubber in there. I expected a bad O-ring in the cover groove but it just sets there.
Now I'm thinking its an O-ring on that shaft inside. Gonna try to slide that pickle out this weekend.

The valve looks like the ones Manufactured By " Prince Manufacture " not 100 percent positive but you might Google it. http://www.princehyd.com/Portals/0/valves/lsr3060flyer.pdf

riverboss

All of the ones ive had apart had plastic sleeves like piston rings along with O rings and they were the problem. But then again i dont thinl i have ever seen a log splitter that didnt leak some where.

FinsnFur

I cant for the life of me get that screw out of the center of the shaft. I'm thinking the the retainer clip at the end would allow me to slide the shaft out.
I've got the screw head on the verge of being rounded out and it wont budge.

LET THE %!$^ing thing leak all over hell then!  :argh:  :laf:

Jim didn't want all that oil on his driveway so he brought the log splitter into his living room.
