:congrats: :madd:Went out making the first set of the year, near my local shooting range.
35 minutes of different rabbit ditress call,, had hawks and crows everywhere,, I had the 12 guage with 3 inch #4 buck,my son was suppose to be with me on rifle, but he over slept.
At 45-1 hour,I run pup distress the fox distress, nothing
my set up had me parked in the hole of a big uprooted tree,, that also covered any low movements,, this will be key shortly.
At this point I am ready to pack it in,pull up my face mask, light a cigarette.

Then I see a blur of movement,3 coyotes coming my way, shotgun, leaning , cigarette smoking, caller off.

I put the caller on mouse, that brings the biggest of the 3 heading right for me,, plan at this time is to bring the shotty up with enough speed to get on him and shoot,, I do this as planned, he locks up and our eyes meet, clear shot at 25 yards.

Put it on his chest, pulled the trigger........"Click"!!!

Bad primer,, he gave me a not so good shot @45 in brush, knocked him down , threw another at him exiting, blood,no recovery, think one bb maybe hit him in the noggin?? He fell 3-4 times leaving out..
pretty good first stand,,, with exception of that primer!!

was this store bought ammo or home rolled?... hate to lose one to faulty ammo...
when you step out of the truck you become part of the food chain...

Triple,yes first time for that!
I lost track of the other 2 up the hill from me,, the one that came clear in,his hair was up on his back, very cool, never seen that before either.

Yes hated not getting him,we tracked a good ways, then made some wide loops,,, snow was patchy on the hill.

Hopefully he wasnt hurt too bad.

You can't kill 'em from the recliner!!

Okanagan

Good morning's hunt, told well.  Enjoyed reading that.

Coyotes are as tough and tenacious of life as grizzlies pound for pound IMO and if a man shoots many he will so some serious tracking on a few of them, no matter what he shoots them with.  You did well with the cards dealt.

Coyote-x2

Thanks Okanagan,, have made 6 sets since with no takers,, back to the Ohio norm!!
Should have been my first shotgun kill ever, such is life.
I just seem to have more than my share of odd /bad luck, coyotes showing up at odd angles,no shot.
froze up an AR once, called in the biggest yote ive seen,no shot...and lastly had a nice one run clear through a housing development early one morning, no shot of course, cool to see it.
maybe the LBL will be good to me!
