I'm not doing much critter calling in the snow right now, but I've chased a lot of critters and caught a lot of fish and am OK with this being a different season of life.

My wife is failing.  Her short term memory is declining, sometimes does not know me, and she is still the nicest person I've ever met.  She's having trouble walking and had a heart and lung crisis a few days ago that put her in Emergency followed by a couple of days in Intensive Care.  She's afraid when she's alone, so I don't leave her except short spells when one of her strapping sons sits in.  She loved the hubbub of kids opening Christmas presents.

We have 3 kids and their spouses; ten grandkids, four of them married; four great grand kids with three more on the way.

The ones who grew up on this forum, like Code, now have kids.  He and his wife have a little girl, 15 months old.  His brother, Jon, has three rambunctious boys six years old down to 18 months, with another little one on the way. Code and Jon were young teens when they killed two deer with their bows in a span of 15 seconds while side by side, the story told here on Fins and Fur. Grandsons Ben and Zay each have their first child on the way.

I am an incredibly blessed man, not least of which is to live long enough to enjoy this crew.

The inevitable progression of age. My 84 year old aunt fell down on Christmas Eve and fractured her neck and passed away a few days later. She was a classy, elegant lady, and an incredible artist who worked restoring paintings and murals in churches. She loved Trump and hated Biden and we used to have some great political discussions.

Sorry to read this, but also know that one of these days it will happen to me.

You are a very blessed man for sure.
Sometimes...the pain of age is another blessing. Especially when compared to the alternative.
I agree with you. Not being able to go out and call critters in exchange to take care of and spend time with your family, (at the age we are) is not a bad investment :congrats:
