Which wood for the mouthpiece

Blackwood
Bloodwood
Cocobolo
Ebony
Walnut

Hawks Feather

Here is the call with the Ebony mouthpiece.  The mouthpiece still needs a couple of coats of oil, but as hard as Ebony is there won't be much change in the picture.

Thanks for taking the time to vote.  Todd, you were the first to express some interest in the call.  If you want it for $30 you can send the money to Fins and Fur as a small way to help the site.  If you are not interested, no problem, and it will go to anyone else who wants it.

Jerry

Admit it, you know what looks better than any of the call makers out there, and now is your chance to prove it.      You get to select the mouthpiece for this, as yet, unfinished call.  The choices are at the top.  The wood with the most votes will be used to finish off this call.  You have until noon Saturday (07/14/2007) Eastern Time to vote.

This wood started life as somewhat nondescript.  I used part of the stick to make a wine stopper and when I opened it up, out popped some really different grain patterns.  When you start turning it around you can see some curl and then there is the reddish brown happening as well.  At least for me, this is one really unusual piece of Maple.  This has just started getting finished with oil and will then be waxed, so it will brighten up when finished, but the color won't change much, if any.

Have fun,

Jerry

Your going to have to post a sample chart of those choices for me Mr Lattamore.

geez Jim...... I know your all those things, but if ya just bought a few more calls you would know what them there types were......

The choice was easy. Blackwood would be elegant and yet subdued enough to not take your eye away from all that's going on with that maple....

Now Jerry, to trulllllllly properly finish that you also will need to add on the part where you put it in a box with my address on it and drop it in the mail  :eyebrow:

I think a piece of blackwood wisth some nice brown grain in it would do that one justice.  Man Jerry, that is some pretty wood.  And your style of turning it really brings it out.  Clean and classic.  That piece of wood was make for a Hawksfeather call.  Aboslutely stunning piece piece of wood that is going to make a beautiful call.

I'm gonna have to say the bloodwood given the description of the piece your working with. I think that bloodwood would really bring out that reddish brown grain pattern your talking about. Of course if I had it here I would hold it up against the bloodwood to confirm this. My very close second would be the blackwood.

my vote is bloodwood it will just make the grain jump out at ya ...I think blackwood or ebony would have to much conflict in it

I think most everything mentioned would look nice, but a nice piece of super slick Ebony, well it just says class....great contrast with the lighter maple......beautiful call Jerry, as always...very classy.

keekee

I had to vote for Ebony as well....Like Joe said it just has class wrote all over it!

Brent

awh

That is a beautiful piece of maple Jerry. I agree with Brent & Joe. Ebony would be a very nice touch to finish that one off.

And can someone pin that remark to the top where Jim admits to being a computer geek.... :roflmao: :roflmao:

Steve,

Welcome to Fins and Fur.  I hope you enjoy it here.  That was part of a stick that I got from some guy in the Northwest.  Rainshadow1 or something like that is his screen name.  But don't tell anyone.   :nofgr:

Thought that dark marbling looked familiar! You did an awesome job on it, Jerry.

It's all the same tree, don't know how that is calculated relationship wise! Can't wait to see some of those longways flames, Bill !
