Purgatory_Predator_Calls

I finally tried trapping for the first time.  Leg hold traps are illegal in Colorado, and I always thought live traps just wouldn't work.  First off let me tell you I have ZERO trapping experience, other than the skunk that kept spraying my lab. God rest that skunks soul!

Anyhow with work being busy and me not being able to call as much as I would like this time of the year I figured I'd turn to trapping to satisfy the itch.  I've got quite a bit of river bottom property permission and know there's a good pupulation of coons from deer season a couple years ago.

This morning I wasen't able to check my traps before work as usual so that lunch hour I grabbed the wife and we set off on the trap line.

Sure as heck on the first trap was a big ole bore coon.  Figure he weighed around 20-22 pounds was my guess.

Anyhow here he is.

I fleshed him as best I could this morning.  LOL used the extension arms for the shop vac as a make shift fleshing beam.  He's currently salted and waiting to be shipped to non other than Champion Tannery for a little sun tan.

Thanks for lookin.  There's a lot of coons in the area so I hope to get some more soon.  I know there is more around as I recentl captured 7 on my game camera in one picture, picking up fat scraps from this years deer season.

Great job, Joey!!

Trapping's a blast. Just caught, skinned, fleshed and am stretching my first coon as well. I'll expect to see alot more coon pics from you in the future. They do pretty well with bobcats in cages as well in CO.

I've got a ton of bobcat country but it's a bit to far to check from my house every morning before work.  I'd like nothing more than to trap a cat but gotta go with what's close to the house.

You never know as they say there's a lot of cat's on the river near home.  Never called on in there but they are seen from time to time.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed shall we.

Thanks for lookin,

Joey

Cool! Congrads Joey! Very nice Coon! Your hooked now! :readthis:

Cage traps work great for coons, I use them all the time. I keep them set in places I cant set snares or footholds, and they take allot of Coons for me. They are great for Urban areas as well to get the dumpster divers!
