Trip to gander

Walked into Gander Mountain today and notice a sale on firearms. Not particularly wanting one but th urge to feel up a few of those sweethearts was hard to resist. Then I got to wanting!! I like the feel and fit of the 1500 model. The savage was ok but the howa just felt right to the shoulder. Any problems with these rifles. Pros or cons on the workmanship or design. Jimmie

I've never heard a bad word on the Howas either in person or on the internet. Thats the best I can do and everybody else is at the LBL!!

Not all are there yet but will be soon Hamer. Been debating on wheterh to rebarrel my old 788 or just get a new rifle. This little gal fit just like my old rifle. I couldn't find anything I did not like about the action or looks of it. Jimmie

I've fondled a couple Howas but could never pony up the cash on them. They were all nice guns & were put together well. Never shot one tho but there are a lot of folks that are happy with them. Can't wait to see your new rig!!

I talked too long with Chet saturday night, Hammer. He just made it that much harder to make the desciscion. That old rifle of mine fits so good and has been with me a long time. And ya can always depend on that 788 action to hold up. Price tag will be about the same either way I go. Maybe a little cheaper on the rebarrel and it shouldn't hurt the value any. And it started coyote hunting about the same time I did

I wouldn't let that 788 get away from you. Those things have a really fast lock time. I had an old pre-64 Model 70 Winchester I inherited from my Dad. We had shot out the .243 barrel with some really hot reloads. I had it rebarreled in .308 for deer hunting. The smith piller bedded the action and put a #4 Shilen stainless barrel on it. I refinished the stock myself. It came out great. It might have reduced the value of the gun somewhat, but I was never going to sell it anyway.

I have seen, handled and shot a Howa. It was accurate and comfortable to shoot. It was a .22-250 and it was slick. I would buy one if I was in the market for a good rifle at a good price. I really was impressed.
I am currently shooting a RRA AR-15 for coyotes and a .270 wsm model 70 that is more accurate than I am.
