how do fur trappers like myself get into the ADC trade?
ADC / NWCO, Animal Damage Control Specialists, Vertebrate Pest Control Technicians, Nuisance Animal Trappers, Wildlife Removal Operators`?????????
OK, first of all, are all these the same thing?
How does a fur trapper transition into ADC work?
can i still trap and sell fur during the season, if i have a nwco license?
do nwco's need a license?  other than a trapping license?
when i was growing up we had fur sale trappers.
and then we had the federal trappers.
nothing in between!
is this a more politically correct way to say trapper for hire?
YES, i have been out of the loop for many....years.

best bet would first get in contact with your state wildlife department to see if there is anything special they require. here in pa. there is a test you take and then a yearly license to buy. the state law dictates if you can sell the fur as well as if animals can be released else where or have to be put down. keep in mind there are also protected species by state.

I'm with frshwtr, probably the best bet would be to contact your wildlife dept.
My guess would be that they do the hiring for ADC workers, but you'd have to have some credentials to get the position.

some other things to rember with this (i sub-contracted on some wildlife problems and learned this from the fellow i worked for). if you are in a state where you get a license and then work for yourself there is more cost than licence and equipment; you will probably be called upon to do some work in readential areas and here  is where iy starts.

1. get a contract to be signed by the person getting your service, detailing exactly what you are going to be doing (usually a blank space is provided for you to write in) how much it will cost and how it will be paid.
2. check how much liablilty insurance will cost (trust me you will need it, especially when dealing with clubs and corporations; you might even use it to help seal some contracts).
3. keep your vehicle neat and clean as well as yourself (leave the camo at home.
4. dont tell anymore than you have to; some people want animals removed but dont want them killed even if the state mandates it.

there is more to look into but as i said it depends on what state you are in.

thanks for the help
i made the call to the state departments......
ADC trappers are county employees under the Ag. department. min. wage job, and all animals must go to the tallow works!
only other ADC trappers are the fed. trappers under APHIS part of the WILDLIFE SERVICE. must have 4 year degree.
thanks again for the advice.

muss

Must have a four year degree to catch animals. you got some pretty smart animals or some pretty stupid people making rules.
