I've got a couple handfuls of mini howlers here...

1.)This first one is turned from the skull nub bone of an Idaho elk. It includes the antler base.

Take a look at the bell end of the call, the color transition is from the skull bone to the antler base. The bell is antler, the toneboard end is bone. White delrin RainShadow toneboard, excellent voice.

Some pics...

SOLD.

2.) Musk Ox, Leather, Whitetail mini-howler.

I have a custom knife job coming up soon utilizing Musk Ox. I got a (Grandma slapping-ly) expensive slab of Musk ox with CRAZY color and marbling to do that project. (Watch for it in a month or two, I'll show it off.)

I figured I'd better handle some of it before I started in to that stuff, so I bought some (Mamma slapping-ly) expensive Musk Ox horns to practice on. Probably 1/6th the size of the horns the slab was cut from, not near the coloration, but still amazing stuff. Beautiful and rare.

I made this small howler from the lower 1/3 of one of the horns. Then I turned a whitetail toneboard for it, and tenon lam'd them with 2 leather spacers. Came out phenominal! Scary pretty! Screams!

Some pics...

This stuff is amazing. Marbled carmel. Translucent its whole legnth. Leather and Whitetail went beautifully, and the voice is absolutely excellent.

I need $210 for this one.

Thanks guys!

Too rich for my blood. Very imaginative use of the skull. Sweet calls. Turkhunter

How about a sound file?  I would be interested to hear what a Musk Ox Horn sounds like?

Thanks Guys. I'm gonna try to add some pics of different angles on the Musk Ox call sometime soon. (And maybe a sound file on the Whitetail board for you too, Al.) It's really exceptional, well worthy of the expense of the horn.

The Elk unit is sold.

THO Game Calls

I'm not interested in a sound file on your tone board, I am interested in a sound file on the call you posted.

Well, I can't take this one out to put anyone else's board in, so I guess you'll have to endure the Whitetail board to hear the noise it makes through the Musk ox!  :doh2:

THO Game Calls

Which is what I asked you to do in the first place.  YOU came back and said

QuoteAnd maybe a sound file on the Whitetail board for you too, Al

Which makes it sound like you are going to post a sound file of a stock tone board.

If it ws Rich Cronk or BradH, I wouldn't think twice about it.  Buy you have been at this for what, less than a year and a half?  I have never heard one of your calls.  If it's a problem to post a sound file on a call that you want 200 plus bucks for, I suppose I am not interested so just forget it.  Not a big deal.

THO Game Calls

Don't give me that "confused" looking smiley.

Your description of the sound of this howler was one word

QuoteScreams

I asked for a sound file.  Not a big deal, but for what you want for it, something more than "screams" seems justified.

If I'm going to pau 200 bucks for something that screams, she's gonna have blonde hair.

It's almost like I'm dealing with a used car salesman.

Oh - sorry

Al has a point there Rainshadow. ;yes;

The only call I've paid in the triple digits for had a carving on it by Dave Paul.

Not knocking your craftsmanship by any means. Phenomenal workmanship!  ;yes;

THO Game Calls

I'm not knocking his craftsmanship either.  I was very interested in that call.  I probably would have bought it if he had put up a sound file and I could have heard what it sounded like.  It is a well done, cosmetically anyway, call.   Very nice touches and inovative use of the leather transition to the tone board.

I happen to like pretty calls.   I don't mind hunting with them.   Matter of fact, I kind of enjoy it.  My BradH howler is very pretty.  Sounds fantastic, and it is always in my call bag.  I probably would not hunt with a painted call, as I would be worried about the paiant wearing off.   But anything else can be buffed, waxed, or other wise polished up.  I mean really, you clean your gun riight?  Wipe down the stock?  Calls are no different.  You have to take care of them.

I asked for a sound file.  I got a run around.

I'm no longer interested.  It's a shame.  It's a pretty call.

Still don't get it, Al. The Musk Ox call has a whitetail antler toneboard. I made it. It's "My Whitetail Toneboard." I thought that was clear. The board makes the sound, not the horn. The horn is just a tube through which the sound travels. The tubes can vary the sound depending on how big/wide/hollow/irregular they are, and to a limited degree they can add direction, resonance, and volume, but for the most part the board makes the voice of the call, not the tube. When I get a chance to set up the computer with the microphone, outside,  with no kids or dogs around, I'll get a file made from the Musk-Ox/Leather/Whitetail howler. Load it on my website, link it, and post it with these listings.

Oh.

My bad.

Sound Sample....

Does high pitches even better. Has one little break in it which you can hear, but not bad at all for antler. Very Loud!
