This is a pot that I turned for a customer and will put a picture he wants under the glass. The top striker matches the pot. The other 4 strikers were turned for another customer. Two are purpleheart and the others are osage orange.

THO Game Calls

As I recall, this is the guy who was asking all those questions about turning strikers a while back.  Looks like he has been practicing.  Those look very nice.  I love the hole pattern in your call.

Al, yep, i was the one with many questions. You and others had the answers which have been a tremendous help to me. When I bought my lathe I bought a very cheap set of turning tools and have struggled with both pots and strikers.

Yesterday I was in Harbor Freight and found a set of HSS tools that were on sale so I bought them. WOW, what a difference that makes. I turned 3 strikers today in about the same time it took me to turn 1 yesterday. I do have to watch myself because they cut so well it would be easy to take off to much and ruin a striker. I haven't tried them on a pot yet but am sure it will be much better.

Blacky, the big deal is keeping your tools sharp. On really hard wood, like Dymondwood for example, you may want to sharpen your tools several times during the turning, maybe more.
