Hi, Ive made around fifty setups and still have not called in a coyote.  I started out using a homemade caller with my own prerecorded sequences.  Ive since went to handcalling but still no success. But anyway something I have tried,  my daughter has rabbits so I store my decoy in the rabbit cage or in a cardboard box filled with rabbit dropping and urine.  Seems like it couldnt hurt.  Thanks

Are you sure there are coyotes in the areas your calling in?
Are you planning your approach, or walking in with the wind to your back and calling down wind?
Have others called coyotes in these areas?

I have scouted in the snow and saw tracks, I have howled at night and have had responses, I have found scat. I hunt fields and set up in the woods with the wind blowing my scent across the fields. I just havent had any success. There is no doubt that its something Im doing wrong , I just havent figured it out yet.

How bout your approach? Are you being as stealthy as you can?
Are you walking across big open fields to get there? Exposing yourself and making noise. Are you parking in the middle of the field?
There's so many things that could play a factor, and so little information coming in.

Try posting an aerial shot of the area your hunting and let some of these guys look it over. Use the "Aerialmaps" button near the top of the forum, and the (PrntScrn) button to save one.

The wind generally blows out of the west but sometimes out of the southwest. The green circle is where I always see tracks going in both directions and scat.  The blue circle is where I saw a coyote back in deer season.  The red circles is where I see 4 sets of tracks when it snows and West of the third field to the right is where they answer me when I howl at dark.

That'll work  :eyebrownod:
Now one more time...how bout your approach?  Where are you calling from, and how are you getting there?

At the bottom  left edge of the photo, you can see a house.  This is where I park. I walk up the right edge of the east and west field, making my way to the east side of the far right  north south field. Then I generally call at the edge of the woods there.  I have walked straight to the woods between the middle and right field and called on the north end of the natural funnel.

Wow...I really got lost there. :laf:
I'm going to guess that your pretty much walking through where the coyotes might be holed up when walking to your stand. But there's two threads running on this now so I'll try to focus on the other one since it's getting other input also. http://www.finsandfur.net/forums/index.php?topic=5041.0
