hey AR guys , help me out?

I have ordered a BUSHMASTER AR-15 and will be in at MIKES GUNS Teusday and was wonderingabout optics for it?  I  would kind of like a red dot for it like my shotgun has or maybe holographic and was wondering range on red dots and holographics. I will mostly be in the thick woods of LBL and the county and was just wanting some advice. I know my range wouldnt be as far as a 3x9 x40 but I dont think I would be taking any 3 or 400 shots with it?       What are some of your opinions on this ? (thanks)

        I would indeed go with a 3 - 9 x 40.  I feel they are a more versatile scope than a red dot.  Works great close in just like the red dot, but it will really shine when you get a shot out beyond 100 yards where the red dot starts to cover up too much of the target for precision shooting.

I gotta agee with Frogman. I have a Nikon 3.5 x12 x 56 mm scope and it is too large for the ar and hard to get a good check weld when shooting.

I have a bushnell  3200 series 3-9 x 40 on mine it works great for me out to about 400 yrds. I like the idea of red dots on an AR, but those are for more close quarters, usually 75yds or less unless you go with a Trijicon that has a very large field of view. They also have little if any magnification.

              I would agree with Kuipdog on the Trijicon,but they are a little costly! But since you are not talking 300-400 yards shots,if it was me I would go with 2x7 or 1.5x6 x32 Leopold var3 - about $399 anywhere.

I tried a red dot on my AR and didnt  like it very well because of the lack of range. I did try out an EOTech holographic sight and fell in love but  I still use a  low powered scope untill I fork out the money for a holographic sight.

I think , and i say i think, we may call the same kind of area or terrain.
So on my AR I run 2 scopes , one red dot  for running or up close shots . and my main scope  a 6 x 18 for times I need to take a long shot or thread a needle through hard woods , in the average day or night calling i could find myself in field one minuet and hard woods the next, so running 2 scopes is the best of 2 worlds.

the red dot is just set to the side , just out of sight of my main scope
hear is a better photo of the red dot,, this is why the AR  plat form i think is so good i can swap my main scope to my night vision in just secants and still have my red dot

That is one sweet setup. I'm looking to put together a lightweight super tough rig for riding on my back on the snowmachine. Who made your upper for that setup? Also, how does that red-dot mount? I can't see the rail from the photo, or maybe it's something different. Thanks for the photos. I wish I could use a NV scope up here.

my gun was built and given to me by a call maker,
It's all from model 1 sales , 16'' sporter , cal 223 1/4 all day , I have a  trigger job set at about 3lb
the front rail is just a weaver mount that I drilled and tapped on to the front fore grip, fore grip is aluminum  so it tapped easy .

this gun is the gun for your snowmachine , trust me

I am building 2 new one's ,One from Mike Milli at Dteck That's going to be my new target gun and i am also building a 10'' upper for a supper light calling gun but I had to get a small rife permit for it
