Honest opinions right??

I like it but I don't. I like it from the standpoint that it's different & the woods go nicely together.  I don't like it from the standpoint that I've seen that walnut in it's entirety & I think it's some really cool wood that stands well on it's own. But I sure aint knocking what you got there tho. It took some time & looks like you got nice clean joint lines which can be difficult to accomplish. Especially that many on one turning. Hope your cool with that!!

I'm rolling with Glen on this one. That looks like a really nice piece of walnut you used up there. I do like the color combination, but I have to say I'm not a big fan of padauk. I do use it on occasion, but not often. If I changed anything on it I would have to go with bloodwood and a less figured piece of walnut. Unless of course the walnut that you used was to small to be used on its own. Then I would say you did good with it, but I would still switch to bloodwood.

As far as the shape / design goes....well, I like it. It kind of reminds me of a lighthouse. Keep the design, but I think the lighthouse effect is amplified by the stacked / laminated woods. So keep that too.

Thanks for the kind words fellers

These 2 pieces of wood came from blanks that I squared up before turning they were about 1/4 inch thick
1 1/2 wide and 12 inches long.I cut them into 1 1/2 sq x 1/4 thick and stacked them then turned them
this is what I got out of it

Knowing what I know now I have a different perspective. For the most part it's still the same but I understand more clearly why this call came about. Cool deal on using all the available wood!!  :thumb2:
