Chasing turkey's
I had to wait till about 6:30am for the lil guy to get motivated this morning,but it was about a 2 minute walk from the house to do the first stand.We set up about 100 yards from the pond,and Kurtis went to work with the box call I got from alscalls



Wasn't but 2 minutes and I see movement right by the pond it's a hen what a great decoy right?
We watched her for about 10 minutes and she wondered off.We set fo another 15 minutes and done some calling and got no response.
So we went out to the feild where i seen 2 yesterdayand on the way to do anoter stand we came across this


That is a size 10 1/2 boot beside the deer track.Kurtis thought we should take a pic of the big deer track
and share it with you guys.
On the next set we got to see a deer off in the distance but no turkey no gobbles so we are headed of for a spot
that I saved for when Kurtis was along.
I forgot to mention that on this tract of land I am the only one that has permission atleast thats what I was told by the land owner last fall,and he told me no Amish hunting my land,so as Kurtis and I top the hill I see movement by a stump and it is a hand waving at me it is the Amish neighbor  I have a phone call into the land owner right now.I was heading to the otheside of this hill where they had corn last year and they hadn't plowed it yet this spring. the Amish guy walked with us and told me he was going out the way I wanted to hunt we walked about 30 yards past where I was going to set up and a nice big tom takes off flying  Yes I am a little upset now.so down over the othe side of the hill and in a small strip of wood that over looks another corn feild and we call there for awhile with no response.So we want to do another stand out towards the alfalfa feild we go through the woods and just as we get to the feild I hear movement up on the bank in the trees I tell Kurtis must be some deer so we try and look through the brush and see nothing
Then out of the bushes and about 20 ft off the ground and 25 yards out in front of us flies this tom that looked big enough to carry a small kid away.Of course the Mossburg rings out and hits nothing.I don't know who was more excited me or Kurtis,but we did enjoy our morning and we will try again Sunday morning

Sounds and looks like you are having fun with your son.  Last fall I took my daughter out early to hunt deer and got set up on the edge of a clearing to wait for the sun to come up.  5 minutes later there is noise off to are right then the banging and clashing of deer horns.  My neighbor and his boy thought it was a good spot as well.  Wish a deer had come as I would have shot about anything just to scare them as they didn't know we were there.

Yes we are having a ball I guess I should of said my grandson Kurtis and I went chasing some turkey today
I keep forgetting we have new folks signing on the board here.It is all good and we still have fun

You gotta sneak up on those field edges too.    Next time when you get within 100yds or so of the field let out a few calls on the box. If all is quiet proceed with caution. There still might be a bird there.

Bill get back out there and set a leg hold for that thing like HaMeR does. Then take a pic of him and brag about how close you called him in

Glen in the 3 days I have been hunting these birds I learn something new everyday
on the first day I watched 1 turkey out in the feild about 200 yards away.
Day 2 I watched 1 about 300yards out got 1 to gobble then 1 came out in the winter wheat about 200yards out
and since there was no bushes to hide in I belly crawled through the wheat about 100 yards  just about got stepped on by 2 deer Yes I forgot my camera those days
Then I heard something behind me and that sent my turkey off in the woods.

If I were to set a leg hold trap you would probably get pics with Amish in them them folks have messed up
everything I have hunted.Had a pair come to a rabbit distress call. We set up a stand for coyotes and after calling coyotes for 15 minutes there stood one with a crossbow   don't know where she came from
Today I have one chase my gobbler off
sure seems like I have a problem with them

And the only time Kurtis gets up early is when it is time to go to school if it is not storming in the morning we will hit the woods again

Kurt yes this lil guy is a gal magnet when he was about 4 he just couldn't go anywhere without the girls
making eyes at him he just didn't understand

Bill, I made that call plain cause I was going to beat it up in the woods myself this year. I am so glad it found the home it did, it dose my heart good to see that box get used by a young fellow. Kill a big one.

Send me a pm and I'll tell you how to get rid of the Amish. We have mennonites and they are about the same, just a little more civilized. I know some killer ways to insult them to the point of them never messing around you again.
