I am looking for a nice starter air gun for Logan and have really been trying to find one he can zap starlings and tree rats with do you guys think this one http://www.airgunsbbguns.com/Gamo_Gamo_Recon_Youth_Combo_p/gmo611002554.htm would do the trick I know its not 1000 fps but I think it should be powerful enough for the little guy

I'm not sure myself if 525 fps would break through or not. I got a feeling it would just sting like heck. Especially using a pellet as the projectile.

Put it this way...I'd rather not be the test target though :nono:

Since the newer Beeman catalog didn't have the information, I just did a quick look for my "old" Beeman catalog and didn't find it on the shelf. That means that it is in storage around here somewhere and I will need to keep looking.  In their older catalogs they had a chart that showed the feet per second needed for kills on assorted animals.  You might want to google a search to see what shows up.

For squirrels, I would go with at least 800 fps.

My Dad tried the 800fps airguns & was unhappy with it's ability to anchor squirrels. Now your mileage may vary. I think 1000fps would be flatter shooting & possibly make the hits easier for him. JMHO

I would go with pneumatic and clip fed.  :eyebrownod: Pricey but dang those are nice. They have some now that are both sring and piston and pneumatic either one.

I agree with ya on that Glen. I was just thinking about him being a young boy starting out and kinda looking for a balance between his abilities, experience, and just how much power does he really need to get started. Didn't we all start with a Red Rider?

myself I started out with a crossman multipump was lookin at that one because of the thumb hole grip Logans arms arent quite long enough for most of them and was thinking the grip would help but now I am thinking since he can rest the gun on the blind edges maybe one of these would be better http://www.airgunsbbguns.com/Beeman_SS1000_H_1082_Dual_Caliber_Air_Rifle_p/bee1082.htm

I agree weedwalker. Kids will lose interest quick if they don't succeed right away is what I'm getting at.  The old Crosman pumps would be a very good gun too. If Logan is thta small you shoudn't have to worry about him pumping it up when no one is around.  :holdon: I do not mean that in a negative manner nor is that reflective on your parenting skills!!  :nofgr:  :whew: But it will make a nice safety feature.

My son used a youth model Gamo. The velocity was the same. He used the pba ammo to kill several Squirrels, but the consistency is just not there. He graduated to 1000 fps.    RP

I understand completely what you mean hammer and even the single stroke ones are going to be to hard for him so daddy is going to be the one to load it for him so yeah the pumps are a very effective safty device I hace a co2 pistol for plinking and Logan never goes near it he knows he is only allowed around the guns if daddys with him same with knives he is a pretty good kid and learns really quick he even came and got me when he found a few 22 shells that fell out of the cabinet wouldnt pick them up he had to have daddy get them he is learning very well now if only he would learn to sit and keep quiet LOL

:laf:  That time will come as well. Sounds like you have a fine young man on your hands. Keep up the good parenting with him plus any others you have & that will pay big in the end.

:whew: Sure glad you weren't offended by that too.
