The Warther Museum is 10 minutes from my house. I've been there a couple times & always enjoyed it. If any of you fine woodturners/carvers are ever in the area I would suggest taking the 2 hours or so & go thru it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have been there a couple of times and it is one of the best kept secrets in Ohio.  For any of you that start looking at the pictures on the site, remember that Mr. Warther carved all of his work.  There were no lathes used and everything is to scale - including the key that hangs on the wall inside the Lincoln train car that carried President Lincoln's body.  On my best day I could not get a round as perfect as he has done with a knife.  He is known for his locomotives and has some on display at the Smithsonian.  During the tour the guides mention that there have been railroad experts that have reviewed the models he has carved and they have only found a few errors - like his using a square nut when that model had hex nuts, etc.  These hex nuts were carved by hand and are to scale.  Check out the site, click on some of the pictures, and be ready to be amazed at this man's talent.

The Lincoln Funeral train has a swatch of cloth over the casket & it is said to have come from the blanket that was originally draped over President Lincoln's casket. He also carved a cane that the tour guides allow babies to try & touch the ball that was carved inside of the cage in the handle. As far as I know no one has done it yet & this is a ball that was carved inside the handle. He presented several canes & walking to sticks to different Presidents too.
