Killed 5 squirrels today. One of them was a female and looked very healthy.

But after opening her up what I think was its stomach...was white and  huge. Figured Id check and see what it had been eating. Knocked her out of a hickory tree.

Never saw this before but whatever it was, it looked like white paste. Like window spackling or caulk. No bits and pieces of whatever....just a thick white dense like paste.

Is this normal ? Like I said Ive never seen anything like this before and Ive been huntin for years.

Dont know if I should eat the squirrel or not.

What do you think?

I would not be worried about eating it. You just caught her with a full stomach that's all.  Squirrels will often gorge themselves on ripe hickory nuts. That's the thick, white paste you found in it's stomach.

I agree with Chet that its not something to worry about if it was inside the stomach.  BUT if I'm ever in doubt about a critter's health, in to the ditch it goes!   :eyebrownod:

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the reply.

Ive hunted squirrel's of and on for 30 years but never remember gut shooting one or checking out the gut itself.

What got my curiosity up was the sheer size of the stomach. Never seen anything like it.

Thanks Again !  Dan

I've seen that paste myself. I always assumed it was mashed up acorns.
I tried chewing some up one day to see if I could get the paste, but I couldn't do it

Killed 3 more this evening. He had huge jewels and looked like he had a wad of Levi Garret in his left jaw. Some kinda tumor. Don't guess it'll hurt anything. I must be in a weird area.

Compared to last year this year has a bumper crop of the  critters. Ive gotten back into squirrel huntin big time. Even at the expense of my deer hunting. Its just so darn much fun with a super accurate CZ .22. Ya just mosey around the beautiful fall woods - sit and think - eat a apple - dip snuff - take a nap - explore new areas - and pop little critters.... then eat em.

I'm using a CZ 452 LUX and Remington 38 gr. LR Sub-sonics.  Head shots @ 40 - 50 yards aren't uncommon.
Sorry....I'm ramblin.

Let me just say I think that squirrel had a happy husband  :eyebrow:

:eyebrownod: You described that perfectly. It's so enjoyable and relaxing.

I got a CZ452 & like you say; it is accurate!  ;yes;  I just have a the cheappo model, but I like that European style stock.
I just got a 2-7 Lupy rimfire scope for it & it's short enough it doesn't hit the rear site.  :yahoo:  Now I gotta get a set of medium rings.  :doh2:   Always something!   :rolleye:

Glad you like yer CZ. I had an $800.00 Kimber a few years back.

Its accuracy never came close to my CZ.

This is one little rifle Ill NEVER trade....as Ive done so many times before with other guns.

Some times while huntin, I just lean it up against a tree and just stare at it.

And also take pictures of it as you can see. Its just so darn purdy.

Me thinks I be one of them thar gun nuts.
