Funny you should mention those. I am sitting here cutting river cane and trying to learn how to make th yelpers from that. Same as a wing bone just diferent materials. Stiil experimenting with length of each piece and size to get the sound I want. Jimmie

I'm almost positive I've seen them on Brents site but it appears to be down at the moment.

I have made some wingbone yelpers and still have a pile of wingbones (including some from Al) but I have not made one in a while. Just been to busy with other calls...I might try and get some done before the season opens though. Especially since my son busted mine when he was younger :rolleye:

I dont recall if Brent had any, but if he did he doesn't have any at the moment. I backed up all his products etc.
I'm in the middle of rebuilding his whole site, due to some security issues with the software we used way back when, and it will be down for a while.

I'd say get a hold of Al at thogamecalls.com

I thought you meant wing bones myself...isn't a trumpet the same thing just different materials?

WOW... seriously I've never seen one !!!   :yoyo:   looks perty, how do they sound ?

FinsnFur

That one was made by CypressSlough.
Al at THO pumped out a lot of info on these calls a while back. I tried to find it this morning but couldn't and I gotta get scootin to work here.

The post wasn't on how to make them, but more so on how well the secret or tricks of the trade, on making them remains protected by the age old trumpet builders.
A highly sought after call and secret.

You can't tell the diference in a well made trumpet and a wingbone call. And if you turn wood or make calls everybody and thier brother thinks you should be able to make one. Bore size and length are keys to the sounds they make. I am learning that from fooling with the cane calls. That mouth piece must be right or the tone will not be right. The bell is  there to add volume I think.  I would think you could use cherry for th mouth piece since it is a very dense grained wood, in place of delrin or deer antler. Jimmie

As I was reading this thread I'm thinking "I know where to get that info" I guess HaMeR did too!!

I bought a trumpet from RJ, Dogwood Creek a few years back. It looks and sounds good I really like it but I haven't seen him around for quite awhile!  I also have wingbone call from Brent that I really like even though I'm not real good at using it.

Jimmie,
I wonder if they would be easier to use if you made the mouthpiece like the mouthpiece of a real trumpet?
Concave and flared a bit :eyebrow:

No, cause your not blowing air into them like a real trumpet, your blowing it over it.

Well , actually your sucking air into it. It's like lip squeaks but the mouth piece amplifies the sound. I am finding it interestin and agravating trying to get th right sound from this cane. It's been a long time since I used a wingbone . I finally decided to put these two wing bones together so I would have something to compare too. Jimmie

I tried it with a mouth piece off my daughters trumpet and I believe it will work. Of course on a much smaller scale.
