7mm WSM

I have noticed that 7mm WSM is not very popular with gun manufacturers, except maybe Browning. Can anyone shed some light on the reason for this for me.
The 7mm Remington Mag did very well, but their seems to be a real lack of interest in the 7mm WSM.

Best I remember the 270 wsm gained the most from the original big 3. (270, 7mm, 300). The 270 has done well and the smaller 243 also has grown. These two cartridges gained the most as I remember. Some body help me out here?

Actually the 7mmWSM has done rather well as a long range target cartridge.

The gun manufacturers aren't jumping on all the variations of the WSMs & WSSMs. Though there are a couple that chamber the 300WSM.

Of course the wildcaters are all over these like flys on a bull's bum in summer. The 6.5 in either WSSM or WSM is a common topic.

WSSMs are available from some of the AR makers.

I have a 25WSSM & love it!

These cartridges came about on the premise of "short & fat is were it's at." That coming off the success of the PPC & BR Remington cartridges.

The reason for my post is because I am currently looking to pick up a 7mm WSM. It will fit nicely into my arsenal. (I really dont want to go with the 270 or 300 WSM's)
I have noticed that rifle selection options with this caliber are limited. Hell, even Winchester is not chambering this caliber in their rifles?

I was just wondering why there is such a reluctance, by so many, to offer rifles chambered this caliber?

Good news & bad news.

Good News - Many stores offer these calibered guns at a discount. Because no one is for sure if they're going to be accepted because of some of the bad press they received & Winchester going belly up.

Bad News - I wouldn't recommend getting one unless you reloaded. Because of what was said above there may be a problem of getting factory ammo in the future.

However, most of the people that own them seem to really like 'em.

Its a cartridge design that was certain to happen.
You may recall the Remington coming out w/ the SAUM (Short Action Ultra Magnum) & now Ruger has a 300 RCM (Ruger Compact Magnum) in their line up of new cartridges.

I do reload....have done so for over thirty years. I have checked, and there seems to be plenty of brass available at this time..
I am sure I will like the caliber, and as a result will follow through on purchasing a 7mm WSM.

Most rifle manufactures have dropped the 7mmWSM from their line up as they simply didn't sell as well as the 300 WSM and 270 WSM.

Since you roll your own, ammo availability is a non-issue. As to a rifle chambered for 7mm WSM.... if you can find one I highly recommend the Kimber 8400 Montana. I have one and it's simply superb.
