I was thinking about traveling down into west virgina this year to hunt bobcat and coyote.  mainly just thinking on it right now.  I am mainly targeting bobcat.  I am looking to hunt in the north east part that branchs toward virginia and maryland.  are there any restrictions on firearms?  what are the seasons like?  are there cats and coyote in this region?  I am lookin hard at the george washington national forest and a few other wmus to the north east of GWNF.  I am not looking for a your honey hole.  just wondering if they are in that general location?  thanks for any help.

Here is a link to the regs....I am in West central WV and we are loaded with cats however most that come to the call for me is after the end of Feb. when the season is over. :rolleye:
I believe Charles (Lorddal) is closer to that area...Snowshoe I believe.

I looked at the regs and call me stupid but we don't have class's of liscense up here in pa.  we got a furtaker tag and general hunting ltag. and that is it.  do they consider furbearers small game down there?  from what I seen I need a Conservation/Law Enforcement Stamp and a class H i believe liscense that is for small game.

edit to add.  I seen that they do not allow night hunting.  and it looks like you cannot use anything but a rimfire or a shotgun with #4 shot or smaller for small game.  this means predators?  I seen that e-calls are allowed.  are decoys?  or are they considered artificial food?

The way I understand it you can use a center fire rifle on a bobcat just not during certain seasons....this is to keep someone from tagging out on deer only to hunt anyway and if asked he would simply say well I am hunting bob cats.
You may not night hunt them and you are correct you need a small game lic. , a Conservation/Law Enforcement Stamp....And you may also need a national forest stamp when hunting certain areas....
If you are only hunting a few days I would recommend a temp. lic. instead of the annual....
You may use decoys and or bait....just not live bait :laf:
Skunk scent they seem to like  :eyebrownod:
If you get one it must be checked in just like you would a deer.

thanks fellas for the info.  I am not sure if I will make it all the way down toward your area lordal but I have now peaked my fathers interest.  he used to hunt the george washington state forest back when i was young.  well younger.  been 12 years since he hunted down there so I am pretty sure he is gonna want to go there.  any chance i get to hunt with my father is one I need to take.  he is having problems getting around lately and both of us are not sure how long it is gonna be till he cannot walk far.  it truely is a crying shame though to see him getting worse in the last two years.

I will keep you guys informed.  and thanks for the help then.  I will get back to you fellas.  I think it will be late november for a 4 day weekend I believe.  unless that falls in a time that there are restrictions because of deer season.  I haven't really looked into dates yet.  this is one of those things that kinda materialized in the last two days.  I said something to dad about maybe heading to WV for a bobcat this year if I did not get drawn for a pa tag.  he said why not still go to wv even if you do draw a tag?  I said good point and it went from there.

bigben-- W Va does not allow Sunday hunting. I don't know if you seen that when you read their regs or not. Just thought I would throw that out since you mentioned a 4 day weekend. Their temp tag is for 6 days. HTH

I think the way it is written is some counties do but it must be on private land with written permission.  I am right in the center of WV by the way.  In between Al and Lorddal
