I thought I might take you guys along with me to work yesterday and show you what I do.
To start with this is the ugliest truck on the road but with it's 400 Cummins gets the job done and thats all I ask of anyhing.

'75 KW with set back front axles[damb thats rare]

Next is a '97 Willmar, Ranger 7200

State of the art docking and loading system [Many others have come to copy the simple but effective way I have this set up] and the stick plays an important role.

Size of one of the jugs of chemical I use.[I also dislike Monsanto a bunch but this farmer wanted to use there product]

What I see looking ahead in my 4'x5' cubicle.  The little monitor is cute eh.

Now you have seen all the switch's.

Looking ahead from my seat.  The light bar for the gps system that aids in staying on line.

What I see looking over my left shoulder.

Next four are of what we will see in all directions while spraying the field.

Make it five.

Old yard I'm parked in.

Love the house.

One of two sloughs I'll show.  On the far side is a dug out that will draw in a lot of game this year.  This is the dryest year we have had since '02 and most of our sloughs hold this much water.  This particular one is 1 mile from any road and not many people even know it's here.

This slough should be full of water and when it is this time of year Vic, Steve and maybe Todd would love to see it as many thousands of geese would be out there.

Crossing a dry water way to get to another part of the field we come upon many of these.

A few more to show what we can see while we are out there.  Hills just like in WV.

We get to see more old yaard sites than most do.

Just some tracks.

Then at 3:15pm doesn't a air line decide to get a whole in it.  Could have picked a better spot to do this.

We drove to Wainwright and bought three[not one] splices for 1/4" OD nylon hose.  Unbelievable that this is the first one of those airlines to rupture as I have been running these sprayers since '97 and thats the first one I've had to fix[they run 100psi].
I'm glad we bought three cause we cut the line back here and pulled it ahead to get at the hole so I used two .

Sorry about the long post but it is the only way I could show what I do and where I do it.  I know being locked up in a cubicle is no fun but it all depends where the cubicle is.  On this day we saw 18 deer, 3 coyotes, 60+ huns, 50+ sharp tail grouse and I damb near rolled the sprayer on the road trying to hit the first 14" garter snake I've seen in 2 years.  We didn't get pictures of the animals as the sprayer needs to keep moving in order to do a good job and that comes first.  We did manage to get 780 acres done before the little breakdown and the rig is ready to go this morning but it's sprinkling out.

I say what I think not think what I say.

Thanks for sharing this with us Barry .....I find it interesting. But if ya ever come for a visit....better leave that rig at home as some of our roads are only 8' wide ..... :laf: :laf:
And the hills are just a wee bit bigger, and a lot closer together.

The farmers around here use those machines a lot too. They look neat going out across the field &  sure do cover a lot of ground in in a hurry. Thanks for sharing.

Barry,

That was a truly enjoyable "ride along".  Thanks for taking the time to post it.  Looks like a mess of loggers got in there and cut down all the trees?  LOL!  That is really some open country.

Al, if you look on a map, WV and PA are flat...LOL!

Thanks again Barry!

Cool post Barry! Always interesting to see what other folks do for a living. They won't let me carry a camera in where I work... :nofgr:   we might steal company secrets.   :roflmao:
Yotehntr calls... put something pretty on your lips

HuntnCarve

My wife asked what "huns" are?  I told her straight faced,  that they're bands of Gypsies that take up residence in the fields of Alberta...Took her a minute...Then she smacked me! :laf:  I explained what they really were.  So now I'm back in good graces for the moment.

Bopeye

That is cool. I didn't realize your part of the country looks so much like Nebraska, Kansas and the rest of the midwest. Good post.  :yoyo:

Now why couldn't Amanda or someone get pictures of that? :laf: :laf:

Kinda reminds me of around here. I'm surrounded by farms on three sides and the Mississippi on the other.

I'll throw my neck out there and look like an idiot, but i'm not understanding the sloughs and what is the red and white appearance to the first one?

Thanks for sharing those pics, Barry.   I am curious.  How many acres a day can you spray?  What is the average length of your work day?   :wo:

Jim the white is alkali and I guess it would be at the bottom of about all are sloughs here.  The red are some kind of plant that can grow in basically "Salt", it's the only place you see them and I gotta admit it was a nice color contrast.
I checked this morning and the snake didn't appear any where so I guess I can't shoot a sprayer either :doh2:.
Thanks for coming along guys and it was fun having you :yoyo:.

Semp it depends on field conditions and what I have for obstacles.  On good going ground I have done 160 in 1 hour but I'll average about 70 with loading and moving from when I start to when I get home.  In the busy season from Daylight to daylight is my work schedule[18 hours+].  Now from 6am to 8pm and then moving.  I love the mornings as everything is either getting up or going to bed and I get to see them both.

What brand GPS do those run? Does it autosteer?  Does it use a Raven spray control system or other?
Mark.

Barry,

Great pictures and I appreciated riding along with you.  Sorry about the breakdown, but those things happen.  Just keep running along and it won't be long till you will be able to enjoy your home.  (The one that I pictured earlier.)

Jerry

Mark I run Raven GPS on all my units.  They are guidance only and no auto steer yet, but Mandy was running a swather for a customer[he was in a bind] a few days ago with auto steer and I'm guessing I'll be buying some soon.  The machines all have Mid Tech controls in them and I have never had a problem with them.

Jerry I may be one of the few people who actually enjoys a break down :puke:.  They give me chance to do something different for a bit and best of all if you never break it, it's because you never use it.  I enjoy this job so much I'd almost do it for free but I'll save that rate for my hunting and fishing

Cool, I work for a John Deere dealer and deal in Autofarm, Ayantra and of course Deere systems, just neat to see other equipment in use.
