I wanted to conduct a bit of a poll on this, but I think it would be easier to just ask you guys. I know we are predominantly predator callmakers / collectors on this board. What other calls do you guys make / collect? This thread has no basis, I am just curious

Personally I make predator, duck, deer, owl, crow, turkey (when I have to :noway:) and I am currently working on my first goose call that is already sold - I sure hope that turns out good :innocentwhistle:

I also collect some calls, but it is more in a haphazard fashion right now. There is no rhyme or reason to what I put into the collection.

What other types of items do you guys make regularly -  I know I have seen vases from Cypress and Stu mentioned somebody that makes Stoppers -  I forget who it was now...Arky maybe?

Anyway, just curious.

I think Jerry makes stoppers....at the present I don't make anything but predator calls......may branch out one of these days when I grow up

Jerry - That's it. Thanks Joe - by the way growing up is way over rated

THO Game Calls

There are other calls than Predator Calls?  Really?

Well, not really Al...I think they are more commonly referred to as locators :roflmao: :roflmao:

Wise guy ;)

I just got my first custom duck call yesterday.   Never even blew a duck call, don't have a clue how they work or anything else, but a guy on CCO wanted to trade a duck call for an open reed call and I took him up on it.  It is a really nice call.  Big.  And I think it sounds like a duck.   I doubt I will do any buying as a collector, but I might trade a few now and again just for yuks and giggles.  I do have a nice bunch of predator calls from mostly new guys, but I have a Kees and two BradH's, to Hawksfeathers, and a turkey striker from Krusty.  I guess I have a small collection, but all but one are predator calls.

Mines all predator too.
But I wouldnt really call it a collection. I dont collect them, I accumulate them.

When I see something that really stands out from the norm, If my pocket book will allow, I have the urge to add it to my accumulation.
I look at the different predator calls I have as more of a representation of the individual that made it, and the friendship that has been formed.

Maybe I better re-write that. Proof reading that now it sounds kinda feminine

Jim, that does sound kinda girly.  :roflmao: :roflmao:

Steve, I make predator, duck, goose, deer, turkey, a few crow and owl calls. I also make pens, vases, bowls, platters, candle sticks, table legs, lamps, tops, etc.

I've never made a bottle stopper. For some reason, there's never anything left in the bottle to need a stopper.  :innocentwhistle:

I wouldn't say I collect, but I do have about a dozen and a half calls from different call makers. All predator. As far as making, I make predator calls, some turkey calls, I have made some deer grunts and crow calls, and want to make a duck call. Oh yea, I also make pens.

Seriously though Jim, I know for a fact you have more than predator calls. You have one of my hooters Uh...owl calls. Given the circumstances I thought it would be best to rephrase that.

Al, I also prefer trading for calls myself. If I ever get caught up I'll offer a couple up for trade.

alpenliter and Brian...when do you guys find the time to make stuff that won't call in a critter?

Steve

Easy for me. I'm retired and don't have to put in time for anyone but ME!

Steve, you have to make time. Turning non-call items gives you a nice break. Just like learning to cast your own acrylic, it's nice to focus on other things once in a while. One thing to remember, most of the non-call items are orders as well. You turn them as they come in. Alot of my stuff gets turned in the middle of the night after everyone is asleep, too. Making other things also gives you ideas to incorporate into calls. The snake skin call I made came from turning pens. Pen turners have been using that technique for a while now. I just modified it to work  in a call. Not to mention, it gives you more ideas for Christmas, anniversaries and birthdays.

I work 2 jobs and have a wife and 2 young daughters to distribute my time to. You just have to figure out ways to make your shop time more efficient

As for collecting (if you can call it that) I collect mostly predator calls. But I also have quite a few turkey, deer, goose and a few others.

I have made predator, deer and a few turkey strikers. Nothing serious just some stuff I give away to friends and family. I do enjoy it but I don't have the desire to turn it into a job. I work enough hours.

I have made a lot of deer calls in the past. Made a few duck calls, and maybe a couple dozen turkey calls. I now make predator calls and howlers my specialty.

:roflmao: :roflmao: Yeah Todd, We can tell that from your sig line. :roflmao: :roflmao:

I collect everything. Not on purpose tho. I have some very nice crow, predator,& turkey calls. But I only pick up a call when the mood strikes. So I guess I'm a selective collector. :laf: :laf:

I've made a few calls for practice but I make pens & other wooden office supplies like letter openers & drink coasters which are a big hit at the local banks I work for. I have orders for Christmas ornaments now too.

I make mainly predator calls, I do however get the occasional order for a Hog squealer,  but that's about it.  I made a couple of deer grunt calls but those were mainly just for my buddies that haven't caught on to the whole predator hunting obsession, and still think that deer are the only animal to hunt.

keekee

I collect and trade. I got allot of my collection from trading and bought allot of it as well and some were gifts. I also buy allot of production calls, mainly just to check them out or take them apart....lol

I build a little bit of everything from deer, turkey, duck, mouth calls, elk, just depends, I have cut my turkey calls down to just mouth calls except special orders.

I love to build Native American stuff, all traditional. Spears, arrows, leather products and bags, pipes, I also love to Knapp arrow heads and spear heads and also make them from steel. A few display stands and cases as well. I just don't have much time to do this stuff anymore, but still take orders when they come in. I have tinkered with a few knives as well, some from flint and some from steel, I have two out in the shop now that are half done  :rolleye:
