I have no clue what to do next with these birds. Since I'm hunting public land it's too hard to figure out where the birds will be every night. Plus the added pressure of other hunters. So when I go out there I stand by the truck & wait for gobbling then I head to where I think I need to be. This AM I had what sounded like a Jake & a Tom gobbling bout 200yds off the road & to my left. The gobbling sounded a bit muffled so I figured they were facing away from me. I crossed the road & went down along the edge of the woods on a gas line right of way. About 1/2 way down the hill a nice big trail goes off to the left. It goes into a small clearing & goes out the right side of that & down over a small drop off. To the right, at the bottom of the drop off, is all open Maple trees. Very open area & probably an acres worth of area. It sounded to me like they were gobbling toward that area so I set up at the top of the drop off where I had a much better/broader view of the area. Now I'm about 130-150yds away from the birds that are still on the roost but gobbling. I gave a couple light yelps on the slate with no response. So I gave it a bit more volume & still got no response. Next thing I know they are flying down but slightly away from me. I hear them hit the ground & that was the last of them. No more gobbles & I have no idea where they went other than away from me. I didn't see hide nor feather of either one. So I walked down the road to where they were roosted & found another big open area. Very little turkey sign there & what I did find was older. This is getting frustrating to be so close & not even seeing one. On Sunday I had one gobble at me from 100yds down over the hill below this same clearing but wouldn't come up far enough to see my decoy or to get a shot at. As much as I enjoy spring turkey hunting I think I'll be glad when this one ends.  :laf: :laf:

I did have one within 75yds or less this AM. Apparently I have the alarm putt down pat or something.   All I did was purr to it & I never got to see it. He only gobbled for about 20 minutes out in front of me. Musta been fake gobblin.

Oh well. It's only 11 months til we get to do this all over again!!  :yoyo:

I'm with ya Bill, I did the same thing. I don't know what part of Ohio your in, but we have had nothing
but rain for the last two week. The sun poked up here and there, but the gumption was just not there.
Besides, what's the deal with noon being the cut off for hunting turkeys? Doesn't give the working man a chance!

fin I live in East Central Ohio
Yesterday I called a hen off roost she flew down right in front of me was going to land then took off again.
When I first seen the bird I thought it could be a male but didn't see no beard so I let it go and watched it land
about 100 yards away. After clucking and calling for about an hour this hen came in around some mutiple rose bushes just a putting and a clucking to about 15 yards from me then she left a flying. That was the closest I had a turkey this season. There is always fall season
